Hope

A night not calm, not bright
Evil roams the earth
Creation shrouded in darkness
Its groaning fills the night
Those in Love’s image made, suffer

A newborn cries out
The voice pierces darkness’s veil
Evil winces, shudders
Creation smiles
It remembers Eden

Hope is born of dust
Breathed into human form
Creation’s walk in darkness
Sees the light of dawn

Hope walks the earth
Knows suffering with a human heart
Feels pain, grief, betrayal
Hope weeps bitterly

Those in Love’s image made pierce Hope
Blood pours out
Evil smirks
Hope lay entombed

But Hope cannot be buried for good
The sun rises
The stone rolls
Grave, where is your victory?
Death, where is your sting?
Now Love's victory is certain

Humility

True humility.
Not self-deprecation,
But acceptance.
No, even more.
Genuine appreciation!
Of God’s work through you.
Of God’s work NOT through you.
And seeing no difference between these things.
